History:  Mud Pond is a large kettle pond named for its characteristic muddy bottom.  It is located on the border of Harwich and Brewster in the Standish Woods neighborhood.  The shoreline is very highly developed with private houses backed by pine-oak woodlands.  Residents enjoy canoeing, fishing and wildlife viewing, especially of deer.
